PROGRAM OVERVIEW

A 43-guest group came to Kauai on a program booked through an organizer, and Kauai’s geography sets the transportation problem: canyon-and-valley lookout roads can’t be run comfortably in full motorcoaches, while a flat coast run suits one.

AGT right-sized the fleet to the roads — Sprinter vans for Waimea Canyon, Kalalau, and the Hanapepe Valley lookouts; a single 50-seat motorcoach for the flat run to Port Allen for a coast departure — and routed the canyon, Hanalei, the south coast, and the rivers across separate touring days, with a Wailua River and luau day and group dining, under one on-island team.

THE OPERATIONAL CHALLENGE

A 43-guest Kauai tour is a vehicle-and-routing problem across an island of very different roads. Four things had to be handled.

1.

Roads Motorcoaches Can't Run

Waimea Canyon, Kalalau, and the Hanapepe Valley lookouts sit on roads full motorcoaches can’t comfortably run — Sprinter vans were required.

2.

A Coast Run for a Motorcoach

The flat run to Port Allen for a coast departure suited a single 50-seat motorcoach.

3.

Four Regions, Four Routings

The canyon, Hanalei, the south coast, and the rivers spread across Kauai; each touring day needed its own routing and timing.

4.

An Organizer's Program, Operated

The program was booked by a group organizer; AGT had to operate the Kauai ground seamlessly.

PLANNING & PREPARATION

AGT planned the tour around Kauai’s roads, matching Sprinter vans to the canyon and valley lookouts and a 50-seat motorcoach to the flat coast run.

With four regions in play, planning concentrated on giving each touring day its own routing and timing — canyon, Hanalei, south coast, and rivers — while operating the ground seamlessly under the organizer’s program.

Fleet Right-Sizing

Sprinter vans for canyon and valley lookouts; a 50-seat motorcoach for the coast run.

Canyon & Lookouts Day

Waimea Canyon, Kalalau, and the Hanapepe Valley lookouts by van.

River & Luau Day

A Wailua River and Fern Grotto day with a river luau.

Hanalei & Coast Days

A Hanalei north-shore day and a Port Allen coast departure with a coffee-estate stop.

EXECUTION — THE AGT SOLUTION

On the ground, AGT operated the Kauai program for the 43-guest group under one on-island team, right-sizing the fleet to each road. Sprinter vans ran the canyon and valley lookouts; a 50-seat motorcoach ran the flat coast day.

The program covered Waimea Canyon and the Kalalau and Hanapepe Valley lookouts, a Wailua River and Fern Grotto day with a river luau, a Hanalei north-shore day with paddleboarding, and a Port Allen coast departure with a coffee-estate stop and the Spouting Horn blowhole — each day with its own routing and group dining. AGT operates destination group tours as part of its Hawaii DMC services.

LESSONS LEARNED

On Kauai, match the vehicle to the road — Sprinter vans for canyon and valley lookouts, a motorcoach for flat coast runs.

Give each region its own routing and timing; the canyon and the coast are different operations.

A group organizer's program still needs one on-island team operating the ground seamlessly.

Build the day around the road, not the other way around.
